Harriet A. Miller and Monica Wehrle have been steadfast advocates for women's rights and social justice in Fort Wayne for decades. In 1977, they co-founded the Women's Bureau, a nonprofit agency serving area women and children. They also initiated "Run Jane Run," a multisport event designed for adult amateur female athletes. In 2014, their advocacy extended to marriage equality, where they participated in an ACLU lawsuit advocating for marriage equality in Indiana.
In recognition of their enduring impact, a mural depicting Miller and Wehrle was dedicated in July 2023 as part of the "Faces of the Fort" project. By Artist Lyndy Bazile located at the Edsall House Apartments, this mural stands as a testament to their commitment to equality and community service.
CWOW invites the community to join in honoring these trailblazers. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about Miller and Wehrle's work, explore CWOW's global marketplace featuring artisan products from over 50 countries, and connect with others dedicated to empowering women worldwide.
About Creative Women of the World: Founded in 2011, CWOW is a fair trade store located downtown and non-profit focused on empowering women through business and financial literacy training locally and internationally.
