Printmaking - July 31 - Tickets
Come make your own hand-pulled prints with our friend & artist Julie Wall from The Hedge on Saturday, July 31, from 1 - 4 pm (drop in). Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to support small farmers in Haiti through our partner organization, Singing Rooster.
Julie will help participants create their own print from linoleum blocks that she hand-cuts and uses in her studio. All supplies will be provided and no knowledge of printmaking is necessary. Be prepared to get a little messy and dress appropriately. This is a kid friendly event.
By 2006, 97% of Haitian rainforests were destroyed due to colonization, in order to plant tobacco, cotton, and sugarcane fields, and due to the constraints of poverty. Singing Rooster is working to reforest Haiti with the help of coffee. Coffee trees have a positive environmental impact by preventing erosion, deterring deforestation (coffee trees need shade, so larger trees won’t be cut down), and providing protection from wind and sun. Coffee exports provide sustainable income for farmers. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Singing Rooster to buy a coffee huller and coffee tree seedlings, providing years of environmental and economic restoration.
