GRAIN OF RICE PROJECT

One grain of rice could tip the scale and be the difference between victory and defeat
The founders of Grain of Rice Project (a.k.a. GORP), Amy Ahiga and Ashley Swanson, thought about the rice concept when they started the organization. They thought 'Maybe we can't help everyone, but we can help a few people, and by helping one person, you enable him or her to help someone else, and a ripple effect is created.'
The original group of artisans in GORP started with a total of 3 artisans and now has grown to 16. At the root of their growth, they always strive to remain a relational organization and believe that life-changing impact happens one-on-one. Their programs are based within the Kibera Slum, with hopes of soon expanding into Meru, Kenya.
